About 1 hour to 1 1/12 hours from Toronto is a real pit BBQ restaurant.

A couple of guys from Alabama decided to see if Q would sell up here like it does down there. The place is called Camp31 (they have a team that does the rib fest circuit). The place has been open since Nov. of last year. Still doesn't have it's liquor license. To give you an idea of how well it is doing, there is up to an hour wait for a seat Friday and Sat. nights (without the booze licence)

This place is in Paris Ontario, a bit of a drive from Toronto. (Best ribs, brisket, and pulled pork in Ontario though).

They are using one of those Southern Pride jobs, and burning a mix of oak and maple.

In Toronto you can find nearly any ethnic food you can imagine - and most of it is very good, but Q is lacking. Go for a good steak house instead, or some good Jerk - you won't be sorry.

short for John Downes - you just need the "e" ;-) (or maybe I have an extra one)

YEEHAA! I live in Hamilton, just a hop, skip, and jump from Paris! I've been disparing the lack of barbeque in the area, being a Kentuckian by origin, good barbeque harks back to my childhood and one get's the hungries for the food one was weaned on from time to time <grin>. Hadn't heard of this place before but I'm heading over there ASAP, maybe today, and will update with my experience there!

Now if I could just find a New Mexico style Mexican restaurant or the ingredients to do my own Mexican goodies, or decent Southern-style country sausage and ham!! Been frustrating trying to introduce my spouse to some of my comfort-food favorites - every once in a while I get a craving for SOS - Creamed Chipped Beef on Biscuits - but trying to find the little jars of dried beef has proved an impossibility, the grocers look at me as if I'm insane when I describe what I'm looking for, they've never even heard of it.

Greetings, Steve.

I went through the same thing trying to locate the place. Finally decided to call a taxi company in Paris, figuring they'd know the place if anybody did. Caught the cabbie off guard for a moment but, he finally remembered it. It is just on the outskirts of Paris on Hwy # 2 (that's the one between Paris and Brantford), very close to the corner of Hwy. # 5. If you're coming from Hamilton, the best way to get there would be to jump on the Lincoln Alexander Parkway, then take Hwy 403 to Paris. Get off 403 at Oak Park Road, take Oak Park to Hwy #2. At #2, turn left and travel about one kilometer, Camp31 will be on your left hand side, just before you get to the traffic lights at Hwy #5. It is quite small, I'd say it seats less than 50 including smoking and non smoking so, I can see where there might be a wait on weekends. Also, while the sign out front says LLBO, our waitress told us their license had been turned down so it's still soft drinks only.

Cheers,
Ross.
