If you are planning a trip to Vancouver in the near future and want to experience the best in Pacific Northwest cuisine using local ingredients then make a reservation for lunch or dinner at Horizons Restaurant on Burnaby Mountain near Simon Fraser University. It is one of my favourite restaurants in the world- half hour drive from downtown Vancouver- spectacular view and sunsets along Burrard Inlet looking out to Georgia Strait. Cool Japanese folk art totems outside to wander around, and a terrific summertime rose garden. Menu features seafood, local lamb, amazing salads, and a variety of other wonderful dishes by Chef Deb Connor. Truly a sensory experience not to be missed!

: While in Vancouver some years, my wife and I ate at a place that served : "traditional native american" fare -- fiddlehead ferns (yum!), venison, : salmon and all sorts of other native animals and plants. We sat at low : tables in a room meant to emulate, I suppose, a lodge. Wonderfully : memorable meal. Does anyone know the restuarant, or if it still exists?

: My opinions, of course, are my own. Which is just as well since nobody else seems to want them. ___

Some years ago (also), my wife and I ate at a place similar to your description. I believe it was "downstairs" (below street level) and the "low table" actually had a trench around it for the diner's legs.

The name of the place was "Qillicum" (or something very similar) and I think it was located at the end of Davie (near Denman) by English Bay, possibly across the street from The Sand hotel.

We had one of their specialty dishes, all manner of fish cooked over a wood fire. It was great and more than we could finish.

I also wonder if it still exists. Anyone out there know?
