I was in Ottawa for a couple of weeks in April and had good experiences at these spots (I don't have addresses, but you can look them up when you get there):

Seafood:
      Flippers

Italian:
      Fiori's
      Mama Theresas

There's also plenty of places in the Byward Market.

As a local let me give you a list of my favourite places. I assume you want to stay down town? If not, e-mail me (I just happened to drop in on this group accidentally and may not be back) and I'll extend the range.

Dinner:

The Full House (Mittel-Europe but Chinese owned!), Somerset Street. Fairouz. Lebanese. Next-door to the above. The Ritz 3 (several locations, try Elgin Street). Northern Italian. Casablanca on Clarence Street, Moroccan. The Istanbul. Turkish. $7 Taxi ride to Preston Street. Giovanni's. Italian. Also on Preston. Mama Teresa. Italian. Somerset Street. Papagos. Greek. Kent Street. The Courtyard. English chef, no special ethnicity. George Street, but ask for directions.

All these places will cost about $60 to $85 for dinner for two and a bottle.

To be extravagant, take a cab across the river to L'Oncle Tom or La Soupiere, where for $85 or so you'll eat French. Cab fare about $10, all in discounted Canadian dollars of course.

I live in Ottawa and can recommend Domus at 85 Murray in the Market area without reservation. It is attached to a kitchen supply shop, and features dishes taken from the cookbooks they sell. Main courses are in the $CAN9-$16 range.

The Mekong at 637 Somerset is good and quite cheap.
