I don't know about Halifax or the lighthouse routes, but there's a nice little restaurant called Eisner's in Middletown, on the Evangeline Trail.

Hi,

as a resident Haligonian, I can recommend a couple of places. I am trying to keep in mind the fact you're travelling with a family!

Not sure how small your children are, but you should know that the pubs, at elast in Halifax, admit children. Try the Granite Brewery on Barrington Street, near corner of Suoth Street. Great beer brewed on the premises , and food's pretty good too. Beers and food for 2 would be about $30, everything included (entres are under $10). A busy spot on a Friday after 5pm!

Another great place is The Cellar, on Clyde Street near South Parl Street. My husband and I eat there more than we care to admit. Great Ceasar salad, different and delicious pizza, and good pasta. Generally, lots of garlic! If it's busy, go upstairs to Curry Village - great Indian food, not always searingly hot like we appreciate it. Price for both places is about $40 for 2, beers, tax, tips included.

For a special dinner out, or a great place to stay, try The Halliburton House Inn (rooms about $100 for 2 people per night). Dinner entres are about $18-25, and they have things like wild game, partridge, *fresh* salmon, etc. Wonderful food, a great treat dinner. Morris Street, south of Barrington, not far from Granite Brewery.

Outside Halifax, you can't expect fine dining in every town, to be honest. There are good places, but you have to know where. We like The Compass Rose in Lunenburg (also a nice place to stay), Zwicker's In Mahone Bay (lovely town too!)

Have a great trip! Hope the weather stays good for you!
