I was also there in July and ate at L'Express on St. Denis which was good in a very classic way. We didn't eat at any of the cool looking restaurants on St. Laurent tho and I wish we had. The atmosphere and menus looked great and I assume the food probably was great too. Walk down that street and pick a place.

The promanade on Prince Arthur street (starting from St. Laurent extending Eastward for about two blocks) is FULL of restaurants. Most restaurants have tables out on the street as well as indoors. Very nice atmosphere.

We ate at an Italian restaurant called Vivaldi there. Very good food.

 ->wonderful B&B called Les Passants du Sans Soucy -- recently renovated building
 ->and rooms and gourmet breakfast for C$100, highly recommended!), and all

 ->Boulevardia (407 Boulevard St-Laurent) - Incredible, inexpensive Italian food,
 ->pasta w/ Nuovi sauce (key ingredient is whole white grapes) is a delight.

 ->Bonaparte (443 rue St Francois Xavier) - Included in "100 Best Restaurants in
 ->Canada" guidebook; may be deserving, but towards the middle of the list.
 ->Classic Continental cuisine, rather pricey. Excellent wine list.

 ->Le Petit Moulinsart (139 rue St Paul) - Belgian pub specializing in "cheval"
 ->and mussels (which are prepared in a rich array of sauces). Short but very
 ->interesting food menu; the beer menu runs twice as many pages. Also a
 ->terrific value.

If price is no object ... Les Halles on Crescent street is superb - reservations highly recommended.

Also.. if you're into Sushi -- there's the Katsura, downtown area .. and my personal favorite Mikado on Laurier just west of Parc.
