Hi Ann the Mountain Parks are expensive but if you are looking for fine dining in Banff I would recommend Le Beaujolais on Banff Avenue at the corner of Buffalo Street. As the name suggests, fine French cuisine.I have not been to the Ristorante Classico in the Rimrock Hotel on the slopes of Sulphur Mountain overlooking the Banff townsite but have heard good things about it. Northern Italian is their emphasis. There is also supposed to be a terrific dining room within the Buffalo Mountain Lodge if you are interested in innovative cooking with lots of game with a Canadian flair.

In Lake Louise after you walk around the Lake forget about the Chateau and go back into town and have dinner at the Post Hotel. Consistently some of the best dining in Alberta...I just wish it was not so far from Edmonton :-).

In Jasper the Edith Cavel room at the Jasper Park Lodge is again, superb but expensive fine dining overlooking Lac Beauvert. One of the chalet resorts just south of the townsite on the Icefields Parkway, either Becker's or Jasper House is reputed to have a very good dining room but we have not tried it yet. If we are in the mood to splurge and get away from the city we usually head for and stay at the Jasper Park Lodge. More casual but reliable is the Fiddle River Seafood Company which is on Jasper's "main drag" overlooking the train station.

Enjoy your visit to Alberta!

Just came back from a week in Banff - highly recommend the Beaujolais restaurant - wonderful french food in a laid-back atmosphere, casual or more formal dress, as you wish. Great atmosphere, great service and smoke-free.

Forget the Grizzly House - overpriced, little value.

If you like wild game, there's a rustic place set in the woods (can't recall the name unfortunately) - could be Buffalo Mountain Lodge - on Tunnel Mountain Road - very high ceilings, choose from venison, buffalo, caribou, pheasant etc. Quite pricy, waiters somewhat pretentious but very good food/atmosphere.

While there, go to the Banff Springs hotel (large bar beside winebar) for a drink - views are spectacular.

Don't miss a drive/hike up Norquay for lots of wildlife and great views.

Have fun!
