Jennison:

(By the way, your name is very sexy) Try "El Sol Mexican Art Cafe", 1448 Danforth Avenue, 416-405-8074. The food is EXCELLENT and AUTHENTIC and DIRT CHEAP. All the walls are covered with paper mache Mexican art which is also all for sale. There is a "dungeon" in the basement with more pricey Mexican art which ranges from beautiful to kitschy. The only problem with the place is that service is slow (on average, about 45 minutes from the time you order to receive your dish, since everything is made from scratch the proper way), so phone ahead of time, give your name, and tell them to have your food ready for you. And, you had better not be sensitive about your tits and ass behind stared at ... the place is filled with hard-core leery, hungry lesbians for some unknown reason. They especially love my sexy bisexual girlfriend's titis!

Try Plaza Garibaldi at 467 Danforth Avenue. I've never been there, but have been meaning to go to try out their mole.

"Dos Amigos" at Bathurst/Davenport is great. Great service, ambience and desserts.

My fave is Gonzo's, on O'Connor just a couple of blocks NE of St. Clair. They have mole (haven't tried it) and wonderfully huge tacos, buritos, quesadillas etc. Prices just went up a bit on some items but it's still good value. Like El Sol, it's slow as everything is made from scratch to order.

btw, I think some of those 'paper mache' things are painted coconut shells.

I've enjoyed the mole and other dishes at La Mexicana, on Bathurst north of Lawrence, east side. It seems to be run by a Mexican family and is certainly not a chain. There's a small patio in summer. Call for reservations as I tried to go one night when they were closed for a private party.
