To the west about 1/2 hour, in Mississauga, is the Bombay Palace. Wow--it is really good. The lunch buffet is good, varied, and only about $6.95 for all you can eat. The dinner entrees are truly superb and so is the service. You can order a whole tandoori chicken for only about $17 Canadian (enough for 2 really). Everything seems to be freshest then--at lunch I believe the mulligatawny soup was from the evening before. There may be one other Bombay Palace in downtown Toronto, but I haven't been there to recommend it. We did eat at an Indian restaurant that was really lousy (no meat on the tandoori chicken, terribly overcooked), but I'm sorry that I can't remember the name.

It can't be any good, it's in Mississaugua. But all seriousness aside, Bombay was once fairly good, but has gone downhill dramaticaly in the past 8 years. There are literally dozens of better Indian places in Toronto.
