Visited Zucca on Castro Street Mountain View with a former co-worker. The restaurant has a warm feel to it. They built a cove along the ceiling and painted the interior ochre. We ordered the 2000 Mt. Eden Pinot Noir. Drinkable but I would give it a year or two. Maybe the vintners at Mt. Eden were hoping to age it on the interstate. I had the calamari and cabbage salad. It was a delightfully tasteful calamari. My friend had the lentil soup. Welcome on a cold December night. We shared the linguini with shrimp and the rabbit. The linguini was swimming in excess water. The shrimp were ok. The rabbit was delicious despite the heavy sauce. We had the pumpkin creme brulee for desert. Tasty, however we were hoping they would caramelize it just prior to serving. (Lark Creek in San Mateo makes a show of this back in the desert preparation area.) One of the owners frequently stopped by and asked us what we thought of the food. He gave us a delicious greek desert wine, Maurodophni. It was sweet with an apricot flavor. The cooks seemed to have trouble timing the food preparation. The wait service promptly removed completed dishes. The food was delicious. I guess the owners or head chefs are still training the cooking staff. A pleasant surprise for Mountain View, good food at a reasonable price.
