Uuuuhhhh...Santa Monica Blvd is nowhere near Van Nuys! One is on the west side, the other is in the Valley, so where exactly will you be? Not to worry tho...I'll make some recommendations for both areas: West Side - Serenata Gourmet, the western outpost of the famous Serenata de Garibaldi in East LA. Exquisite upscale Mex, heavy on the seafood, unique dishes and sauces. Wonderful! Valley - Brent's Deli, in Northridge...absolutely the best deli in LA! Forget Nate and Al's and especially Jerry's Famous (YUCK!!!) Worth the drive no matter where you are. Everything on the menu rules except the potato skins which suck. La Frite - on Ventura Blvd in Studio City, excellent French bistro, enigmatic service...their creme brulee is the standard by which all others are judged. If you have some $$$ to spend you would be wise to have a meal at Pinot Bistro in Studio City. Our favorite outpost of the Joachim Splichal empire. fabulous! And you will find In 'n' Out burgers in both areas...best fastfood burger in the universe! I hate spam, so remove a "syn" before replying via email. Los Angeles, CA
VanNuys CA.
van nuys to 2nd st santa monica is 30 min at the very best - count on twice that if you hit rush hour traffic. as far as santa monica - one of the best kept secrets (i grew up there) is "the galley" on main st. near pico blvd., about 5 min for 2nd. st. they server a killer new york steak for about $30. it's very casual... in van nuys is san remo - it's not on the menu but if you like shell-fish order the mussells- jumbo green (new zeland) in a red wine sauce (about $25) xlnt !!! have great trip- hope this helps ps: if you want to sample a little of los angeles history (great "road house" cooking) try the pantry in downtown la (9th & alvarado) :) Your N. wrote: > Sorry, I don't know the area so I can only use the info given. > I am staying in santa monica (second street, not sm blvd, but that is > nearby.) > I am attending a class at the brewery which is on roscoe blvd, which I was > told was in Van Nuys (we just say the LA brewery....), I was told toexpect > a 15-20 minute commute so it may be a spread and I can try paces on both > end.....
