Buttonwillow seems to be about the right distance for us, but >with a baby you might not make it that far. True. Actually listening to all the "Carne Asada Taco" ads for Taco Bell during the World Series made me think I'd consider stopping there for one. Heretical to say in ba.foodland, but I have tried In-and-Out boigers several times now and don't much like them. That is if I'm not hungry near Los Banos, where there are a couple of hole in the wall Mex joints on the main highway that are worth the short detour (and not as lengthy a stop as a meal at the Basque place). My parents usually eat at Harris Ranch but I'm of the grab-and- keep-driving school (of course it's just me in the car usually). That's the bad news, the good news is that any place should be family friendly. I-5 north has much better pickin's, but then it goes through several actual towns even before it connects up with 99 again. 101 would be nice since there are actual towns there with real places to eat and it's a lot prettier but it would easily add a couple of hours to an already long day (my usual destination is my brother's in southern Orange County). Especially since I live in Berkeley so getting through San Jose/Gilroy takes a while. Some day when I have time to burn, I guess.
