Another data point: We had dinner at the French Laundry last Friday, after warming up at Keller's Bouchon the night before. My wife had the 9-course tasting menu at $135; I ordered five courses a la carte at $115.

We had two glasses of wine ($28) at the reception bar before being seated, then a bottle of Mondavi To Kalon I Block sauvignon blanc ($130), and a bottle of Turley Haynes Vineyard zinfandel ($160) with dinner. Dinner began at 9:15 and ended just before 1:00 am. The bill included 18% gratuity automatically added in. It was worth the price.

Our last dinners at both Trotter's and the Inn at Little Washington each totalled around $500.

Best buy? We had a Moroccan dinner at Chez Panisse a week ago Monday, at $45 each plus a bottle of Ridge Geyserville at $72. 8;)

Larry
