In the Milpitas area, there is Milan (near Serra Way) and in Fremont there is Krishna restaurant (Gujarati) near Fremont Av and Grimmer. Go for the food, not the atmosphere. I am sure there are others in the South Bay.

It's small, it has no atmosphere, there is no meat on the menu, and the hours are very limited. That said, the food is wonderful, some of it south indian, and lovingly prepared.

Panchiavati, just off 237 2 exits east of 101. Call them, it's hard to find and the hours vary. Buffet lunch can be: Dal, chapati, pappadum, soup, idli, saag ghosht, etc.

There is Bhavika, on El Camino at the Santa Clara/Sunnyvale border, located near Henderson Street, next to Kumud Appliances, in the same shopping complex as 7-11, KFC, etc. The food is good, the ambience is terrible, the crowds and the wait overwhelming sometimes for the size of the place [ just 5 tables]. But take out is always an option. Cant beat the price.
