Danville, actually.

The Times gave the new place (301 Bistro) a raving review. We went there Saturday night. We thought that it was as good as the review said.

The cuisine is kind of East/West/French/Cal.
But *not* in the bad sense. I am really critical of restaurants that do fusion cooking poorly, and this is not one of those.

The owner/chef is Chinese. I think that the Asian influence on the food is less than the newspaper review indicated. We had a Caesar salad (good) and asparagus soup (good). Then we had "Muscovy duck two ways" and "panko crusted Chilean sea bass". Both were outstanding. The duck leg was seasoned with star anise (there's the fusion) and the breast had a port wine sauce over it. It was served with a wild rice risotto timbale (outstanding) and some mango/pineapple fruit salad. The sea bass was served with garlic mashed potatoes and spinach.

Both entrees were wonderful. We'll be back
