I've also heard good things about Mobo in Santa Cruz, but haven't been there personally. Will From [email removed] Thu Jul 17 16:09:11 EDT 1997 Article: 27211 of ba.food

Sushi in Santa Cruz

It's Takara, and the service is a bit pokey. Although I don't fault the waitstaff; when service is at its worst, the waitpeople seem to be running flat out. I think management just doesn't put enough of them on to handle the business well. The sushi seems good, but I'm no expert as I'm relatively new to the food and have had it in only a couple of places. One interesting thing: Takara does seem very popular these days, and when the wife and I walked in at 6:30 one Thursday night the hostess asked us if we had a _reservation._ We were rather surprised, because it's not that fancy a restaurant -- restaurants in that class don't take reservations in Santa Cruz. They ended up putting us in the rather spartan little "extra" dining room in the back, where it took us 15 minutes to get a waitress because -- well, out of sight, out of mind. Once I went out onto the main floor and flagged one down, things went easily. But I shouldn't have had to do that. We enjoyed our food, but we're hesitant to go back. Vegetarians take note: my wife ordered a bowl of noodles for lunch at Takara once. She was assured it was vegetarian. But the noodle soup came with fish flakes in it. Granted, those don't resemble any animal that walked the earth or swam the ocean, but they're not vegetarian. Jim J. From [email removed] Wed Apr 15 09:12:41 EDT 1998 Article: 30891 of ba.food
