If you want good crabcakes, try Birk's in Santa Clara. I've been to DC a couple of times and ate myself silly on crabcakes both times. The one's at Birks are quite good - not as good as the best I had in DC, but quite tasty. Birks is right near the intersection of 101 and Great America Parkway. I believe the address is on Freedom Circle. Since you've never had them: Real DC style crabcakes are made with the meat of Blue crabs, which have almost no leg meat, but a big lump of sweetish meat in the back of the crab. That meat is mixed with bread crumbs, dry mustard, seasoning and mayonnaise and either sauteed or deep fried. I don't know if there still are, but there used to be inexpensive little places to eat crab all around DC. When I was there in 1985 I remember a place where you could get a plastic cafeterial tray full of steamed blue crabs for about $6. When I was done with the first tray they brought me another without asking. They also sold crab cake sandwiches, which were deep fried crab cakes on hamburger buns. Sounds wierd (kinda was) but if they had places like that out here I'd weigh 280... scott
