There's a really, really good place in Santa Cruz that is close to the downtown area, but I can't remember the name of the place. The decor of the place reminds me of the early 70s. I've only eaten there once, and I was very pleased. I do remember that this place meets all of your criteria. You could also try some of the Indian restaurants around- most offer good lentil or curry dishes that are meatless. My favorite Indian restaurant is Pasand, in Sunnyvale, but I'm sure you won't have trouble finding others around wherever you'll be in the area.
