Santa Barbara Recommendations?

We live in L.A. and there are two places in Santa Barbara that we consider worth the 200 mile round trip drive. For a high class place, go to Downey's. 1305 State St. (between Victoria and Sola) 805-966-5006 The best taco I ever had in Southern California was at a gas station in Indio. Unfortunately, they are not making tacos anymore. The best existing taco in Southern California is La Super-Rica Taqueria. 622 N. Milpas 805-963-4940 Whatever reason we have for going to Santa Barbara (even if the reason is to eat at Downey's) we arrange the trip so we can eat a meal at La Super-Rica. Have a good trip. Kay
La Super Rica is the absolute best! I've Been a customer since they opened in around 1982. Now I drive 100 + miles just to eat at Super Rica. The only thing I miss about living in Santa Barabra is La Super RIca! Enjoy, Mike McTaggart (former owner Pat & MIke's Fine Food & Wine in Santa Barbara)

Check out the menu, you won't be disappointed. I forget what street it's on, I haven't been there in 5 years . . .

Wonderful food, and so cheap you might wonder about what you were getting if you didn't know beforehand what you were in for! I also recommend the Rio Bravo brewpub, on the main north/south drag running away from the water (I can't remember the name of the street at the moment...). I can't speak for the beer -- because we were there just after the deluge in March and the rain flooded their basement and ruined all the beer in process -- but their selection of California microbrews was impressive enough to make me respect their taste in beer, and the food was very, very good (mostly Mexican, with a few pasta dishes thrown in to appease the trendies, I imagine). ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Phil Brown | Atlanta, GA, USA [email removed] -or- [email removed] "It's not what you know that counts, it's what you can think of in time." -------------------------------------------------------------------------
