Gourmet Burrito on Newell across from Kaiser clinic - best veggie burritos I've had in BA. Also many meat selections. Their hot salsa ain't hot but can get e.g. Pace Picante at Lucky's around corner. I keep figuring they'll get the hint but I'll go anyway for the really nice taste.

Wazwan - 1610 Locust Street - South and North Indian. Very good Masala Dosa.

Out of WC a bit:

Chaiyo's Thai Cuisine - 3555 Mt. Diablo, Lafayette - good, tasty Thai.

Swagat - 1901 Salvio street, Concord - South Indian - Good Utthappam and Masala Dosa. I tell them to hold the oil on these. Reservations needed for popular times as they can get crowded.

Wat Phou - Broadway - following Salvio around Petco in back of Park & Shop in Concord.

Thai Palace - 41 Wordsworth Lane, Pleasant Hill - off Contra Costa near the Pleasant Hill PO - my favorite. Be sure to order mild. Chinese broccoli is great here.

Three Brothers from China - near the PLeasant Hill PO (in same block) - good tastes but hard to get them to hold the oils.

bias alert: I am a vegetarian who likes very low-fat food - nothing oily nor greasy so I favor those places that cater to that.

We often drive to "House of Nan King" on Kearny near Jackson in S.F.
to get really great food, but I recently tried the new place at the corner of Yg. Valley Road and Civic in Wal. Creek... I believe it's named "Green Garden." The food is excellent... I was scared away by the "Buffet" sign, but found they had tanks for fresh seafood and very S.F. tasting dishes... Regular prices but much better food than the usual suburban ersatz chinese... Also I find "High Tech Burrito" across from Heath Farms on Ygnacio Valley Road to be far superior to the burrito place on Newell near Kaiser. They also offer a kids burrito or two for a couple of bucks that I confess I often get for myself when not that hungry.

Melo's is ok, but even after twenty years in the Bay Area it's hard to
find a pizza we love. Calif. style wise we've been going to Calif. Pizza Kitchen since it opened and think their pies are great. New York-wise we prefer Blondie's over Melo's.

I like Mai Thai on N. Main St., or the Siam Orchid in Orinda

My favorite in WC is Wan Fu on Broadway--too neat and clean and modern to be authentic S.F. Chinese, but good food anyway.

      Happy eating,
