Best breakfast, and even better brunch on Saturday and Sunday: The Bakery, 129 E. Anapamu St., across from the historic courthouse. Don't be put off by the name. It is a small northern Italian style bakery and cafe with a strong California flavor. Delicious for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner. If you go for dinner: all of the pastas are handmade. Save room for desert! They are all made from scratch on the premises, (as is everything else.) The owner / chef is a perfectionist. Her parents were from Italy. I have eaten there many times. I don't work there, and have no other affilication with them, except as a satisfied customer. Citronelle for lunch (sister restaurant of Citrus) Four Seasons/Biltmore for brunch. Dave

If you don't mind a scenic drive, go up the San Marcos Pass Rd. to the Cold Springs Tavern. It's fantastic! Doug
Far and away, the finest restaurant in Santa Barbara (and one which we would not miss when visiting in Southern California) is Downey's. Great food, attentive and professional service. Not to be missed!

You can get any wine in the store served at your table for only $10 over retail -- a super deal if you like very good wine with your meal. The food is wonderful. Jim
I just got back from eating at the Wine Cask this evening. Dinner for two came to $80. Great food, great wine list. Other great places in Santa Barbara, The Bakery on Anapamu St., across from the sunken gardens at the historic courthouse. They serve Northern Italian breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Awesome brunch on weekends. Reasonable prices. Also, The Stone House, in Montecito. A little pricey, but good for romance or quiet special dinner. Excellent food. Cheap eats: La Salsa, next to the Earthling Bookstore on State St. Best coffee in town: Santa Barbara Roasting Company on Motor Way, one block off of State. Totally casual. You can watch them roast beans and sit there all day with the bicyclists, cops, homeless folks, students, surfers... Best sushi: not telling. I don't want my favorite place overrun! Bon apetit!
