Here are two on State Street, about 3 and 6 blocks from the beach. Enterprise
Fish Co. and Santa Barbara Brewing. I've been to Enterprise twice for dinner
and the brewery twice for lunch and they are both good, if that's the kind of
food and atmosphere you want (I do).

 >>>can anyone recommend one or more good mexican restaurants in Santa
Barbar/Cal. to a Swiss lady ready to spend a week there in February? A
place where you don't have to wait in line for a free place and where you
can stay longer, even your plate is empty?<<<

The best recommendation in Santa Barbara would be the Historic El Paseo,
located in a courtyard with a fountain in the middle and an open canopy
ceiling. Been there forever, food and service are great.
