Mom and Dad had a dog of an evening upstairs at Chez Panisse last night. Very slow service, food not up to the usual standards, and generally not a good thing. They were surprised--one of the joys of living in Berkeley is Chez Panisse is just down the street and they have been known to frequent the place.

Up in the Napa area, I was recently quite impressed with Bistro Jeanty in Yountville. The exec used to be the chef at Domaine Chandon across the highway, and has opened his own place. Reservations recommended--a great place for a good French Bistro lunch or dinner at surprisingly reasonable prices.

Don't know if it's even still in business, but the last 2 or 3 times we've been in the area we've headed to Healdsburg to "La Charcuterie" for wonderful food, casual atmosphere, good wine selection, etc. It looks like a locals' favorite, too. gloria p

I was just there a few weeks ago and agree totally. Also try Roadhouse 29. Very casual decor, but the food is fantastic. i had a wonderful fois gras and the lamb was superb. Great value wine list of some very difficult to find wines.
