Any tips on similar place(s) in Seattle (even Oregon) would > be great too...! > > Randie the ichthyovore There are several good places in the SF area, and some are even affordable. For very traditional sushi and Japanese food, Kirala in Berkeley (south of/near the campus) is fantastic. In the City, Hamano Sushi (Castro nr. 24th in Noe Valley) and Grandeho Kameyko (Cole nr. Carl in Cole Valley above Haight Ashbury) are both very good. For interesting makis, Moki on Cortland in Bernal Heights is worth a trip. The chef-owner is connected to Blowfish, which is great but not cheap, and Moki is pretty well-priced, with interesting menu of pan-Asian-influenced cooked food. For cheap, fresh nigiri priced on the economies of scale principle, We Be Sushi can't be beat, the family has several locations throughout the City. That'll be a more downscale experience, but it is perfect for the low budget satisfaction of a sushi craving, and the location at Valencia near 16th might fit into a tourist jaunt to the Mission District. Have a good trip, AEF

Sushi 101 (Studio City) @ Tujunga and Moorpark reasonable, small and great chefs. Go for the spicy albacore roll with garlic chips Katsu-Ya (Studio City) Ventura Blvd. at Colfax a little pricey but very unqiue dishes Tera Sushi (Studio City) Ventura and Radford legend has it the sushi craze started here, Loud and busy, and probably overpriced, but serious LA scene and probably good for a celebrity sighting --------------E6EBE2F005A249E879093A55 Content-Type: text/html; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Randie F. wrote:
>
> Hi everyone,
>
> We're taking a trip down the West Coast in late September and I just
> know I'll have a craving for Japanese food while on the road.
