San Diego recommendations

For the view by God, try the Marine Room in La Jolla, great view, very nice, execellant
food, although, I would not say exotic.

For great steaks, try the Rainwater, Downtown or Cindy Black's in La Jolla. I've
been to Rainwater and it's great for steak, but, have not tried Cindy Blacks, but,
it is usually on the best steakhouse list for San Diego.

Montana's in Hillcrest is great Southwestern food.

The Grant Grill? Haven't been there in years and haven't heard much
lately either (although I think there was a shake-up about three years
ago, the executive chef went to The Marine Room, I believe). The Grant
Gill is good, but not in the top-tier of restaurants in San Diego
(Marius, Mille Fleurs, El Bizcocho and George's).

I've had really good meals at Stephano's and really bad ones. I heard
it's going to close, also. There are at least four or five Italian
restaurants that are far superior to Stephano's (Primavera in Coronado,
Trattoria Acqua in La Jolla, Tutto Mare in UTC area, Salvatore's
downtown, Fio's and La Strada in the Gaslamp, just to name a few off
 the top of my head).

Never heard of this one, but restaurants are coming and going in the
Gaslamp so fast that doesn't surprise me. If you're in the Gaslamp,
there's a whole ton of possibilities, besides Fio's and La Strada,
there's also Blue Point Coastal. I've heard good things about
Trattoria Mama Anna's and the casual country-french place on 4th. Avoid
Croce's (for food, bar is OK), Ole Madrid and Dakota.

Haven't been here in quite a while also, I've heard it's gone downhill
 since Dobson sold it.

I've been here a couple of times and definitely was unimpressed. The
chef is Vietnamese and the cooking was "classic" french, but was
really pedestrian. Why go here when Laurel's is across the street?

Whenever we go out to visit my SIL (who lives in Encinitas--north of San
Diego) we always make it a point to eat at St. Germaine's in Encinitas.
 GREAT breakfasts/brunches.

Lots of great places, but one that we never miss when visiting SD is
Tamarindo in La Jolla. Awesome Nuevo Latino menu, gorgeous room and a
lovely patio for outdoor dining. It's run by the same folks that have
Sammy's Woodfired Pizza, another place worth checking out.
