Matt asked about "diners" near La Jolla. I emailed him this stab at it. There directions are not complete, but anyone familiar with the area can find these. And there's always the phone book. I've found a couple good places to eat that aren't too far from campus here at UCSD. I don't know if they're "diners", but they all have good food for cheap prices, decent but not glitzy atmosphere, and nice service. First is Jeff's Burgers. Head down the hill past Scripps on La Jolla Shores Drive. Keep going until you come to the last light before the intersection with Ardath Road (the real big, always crowded one). Take a right and go until the road narrows, and Jeff's is on your right. Cool booths, great food (burgers, sandwiches, etc.), walk or short ride to shores and outdoor seating. Inexpensive. Hot tip: go to the Price Center, in the Theater lobby, and use the "Local Info" electronic booth to get a two-for-one coupon for Jeff's. Next is Harry's, kind of a 50's flashback diner place. If you keep going into La Jolla, up and over the hill, you eventually are forced to bear left. Just after that turn Harry's is on the left. Great food, lots of booths and even stools at the counter. Shakes, burgers, sandwiches, specials, etc. A little more diverse and expensive than Jeff's. And, the La Jolla Brewery. Kinda Yuppie but good beer and food. Probably more expensive than either of the other two. Pretty close to Harry's. Another tip: go to Jeff's (with your coupon and a friend). Order two Jeff's super with cheese and everything to go. While they're cooking (you can call the order in, if you want), step into the market next door for a couple big cans of Foster's lager. Then take your meal either to the picnic benches at the Shores, or up to one of the many semi-secret spots on the cliffs near Scripps. Well, that's my favorite three. When you're in a hurry and can't decide what to eat, go to UTC and they have a "food fair" near the skating rink with pizza, chinese, indian, chicago dogs, burgers, taco bell, ice cream, yogurt, lots more. Go to it! (Damn, now I'm hungry!) Michael Breen InfoPath programmer guy [email removed]
