Along Highway 1 between San Simeon and San Luis Obispo there is a small (population of 18) town called Harmony. Not much there but a charming restaurant called the Harmony Pasta Factory and Saloon (beer and wine). We were there last month and really enjoyed the food (not only pasta), service and ambience.

For a romantic lunch or dinner, I would recommend a place called Nepenthe. It is just south of Carmel on the Big Sur coastline. The food is just average, but the location is paradise. It is a large exposed beam restaurant with a huge patio that you can dine on. It is built on the ocean side of Highway 1, on top of a cliff that overlooks the Pacific. On a warm, sunny afternoon, you can sip a few drinks, have a sandwich, and just soak up the surroundings. Very casual, but very special. My wife and I just love this place.

BTW, if you dine at night, they have a large fireplace built into the middle of the patio that will keep you warm on a cool night.
