Bakersfield means just one thing to me: Basque. The best of the lot is the dining room at the Noriega Hotel (with adjoining jai alai court) -- the food is simply delicious and the decor is atmospheric rather than elegant. There's also a French Basque restaurant on the west side of town called Benji's that's a little more upscale-looking and has really superb food, too. Oh, and don't forget to have one of those Basque Punch cocktail thingies before dining.
