You've got to be kidding -- were you living in a box or something? Just off the top of my head:

1. The North China, SF
2. Yet Wah, SF/Marin
3. Yen Ching, Berkeley
4. King Tsin, Berkeley
5. Omei, Berkeley
6. The North China, Burlingame
7. Chef Chu's, Los Altos
8. The Pot Sticker, San Mateo
9. The Mandarin, SF
10. China Lion, Palo Alto

Most of these are still around; Omei is gone, and Chef Chu's has gone downhill, but there was absolutely no lack of "authentic or good" Chinese food in the Bay Area in the early/mid-'70s. And this was after thinking for maybe a minute and a half -- there were lots more.
