In Campbell:
Gisueppe on Campbell Avenue eastbound bypass between
  Winchester and Bascom

Martha's in the Pruneyard Campbell (formerly bad, now good)
  Asian/Californian

In Sunnyvale:
Nicolino's on Tasman between Lawrence and Great America
  Bad coffee.

Downtown San Jose:
La Pastia in the Hotel De Anza
  Gorden Biersch (pub food)

In Santa Clara
4-5-6 Chinese on Pruneridge between Saratoga Av and
Winchester. A dive but some excellent dishes.

San Francisco
  Caffe Riggio on Geary between 4th & 7th ave (I don't
  remember)

Hing Lung at the Park, 19th Ave and south end of GG park.
Chinese food in a bright green building. Famous for juk
  (rice porridge) for lunches.

  Mandalay Burmese, 6th & California

Emmy's Country Chinese, on Montery Blvd. Excellent, but
  not expensive.

Il Forniao with several locations has not disappointed me.
Cowper St. Palo Alto, Union St. in San Francisco, and
  Battery St. in San Francisco.

Someone from San Francisco should be able to help you
with the numerous little italian restaurants.

: I'll be in the Santa Clara/San Jose area for a class next week and am : totally unfamiliar with the area. I'd love to have recommendations for : moderately expensive restaurants in the area. I'm an Italian food : lover but can be happy with just about all ethnicities except for Thai.

: I'm also hoping to venture into San Francisco, so any recommendations : there would be wonderful as well.

: I'll check here for responses but you can E-mail me as well.
