Romantic, good food, and water view--the only place I know that's all that is Boulevard, and I'm not sure there are any tables for two in the back room that has the view of the bay. It's definitely one of the most romantic restaurants in town, and has some of the best food. Another place that *might* offer all three would be upstairs at the Waterfront, but reviews have been mixed. Rich L. wrote: > > My wife and I will be visting S.F. this weekend (4/24--4/25) . Any suggestions? As you've read, San Francisco makes poor use of its waterfront. Something about preserving it, which I support, but somewhere along the way, we ended up preserving dilapidated warehouses. Some suggestions for romantic spots with good food value and comfy, quieter dining rooms: Majestic Cafe (or Cafe Majestic, in Pacific Heights) Ricochet (in West Portal; lovely dining room) Bruno's (not a romantic location in the Mission but the retro 50s look inside and the food are great)
For reverse appeal, try Louis' Restaurant at 902 Point Lobos Ave, adjacent to the Cliff House. Foodwise this is the most ordinary coffee shop in the world, but it enjoys an epic view of the Pacific, Seal Rock, the Marin Headlands, Mt Tam, Pt Reyes. Friendly service too. Get there by 8AM, otherwise wait for a table. LJ
As the guy who started this thread, I just want to thank you all for your various recommendations. As you recall, I was looking for 1) good food, 2) waterfront view and 3) romantic. We ended up at the Waterfront Cafe on Pier 7. As for meeting my original requirements, well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad. 1. Good food: I ordered the seafood payella which was very nice. All the ingredients were fresh, and each ingredient held its own against the saffron rice and broth, My wife had the New York sirloin, which was tender and quite tasty. We both had the "warm chocolate cake" with mint ice cream, which was the weakest part of the meal, but still OK. The service was prompt and attentive. 2. Waterfront view: just about all the tables in the room have an excellent bay view, overlooking the Bay bridge. 3. Romantic: It's not really what I'd call romantic, but the noise level is moderate and it's very possible to hold a conversation without raising your voice. Overall, I was very impressed with the value (final bill was @ $100 for 2, including food, drinks and tip) and would certainly return given the opportunity. Once again, thanks for all your suggestions. -Rich Lenihan Dave G. wrote: > The food ranges from good to superb at the Carnelian Room on top of the > BofA bldg. If you are lucky you get superb.
