Not So Cool

A few weeks ago, after Meg's report here on dinner at JZCool's, I finally
wound up there for dinner. I had earlier thought that their posted prices seemed unduly high. But my opinion shifted by 180 degrees. I had a vague impression that prices were a bit lower than I had seen earlier. But in any case, the portion size was exceedingly generous, and well worth the price. The sliced pork loin I had was good, and came with an excellent pear-tomato (I think) chutney. Service was well-intentioned, but haphazard. (For example, they neglected to include the chutney on my order until I inquired.)
So, I put the place on my list of repeats, and went back last week -- only
to find a sign: they will no longer be serving dinner, until summer! I don't know if the problem was lack of customers or something internal. In any case, a bummer. We could really use a good American place of this level of in- formality in its area. (It's on Santa Cruz Ave. in Menlo Park, by the way.) But I'll still be an occasional customer for their salds (at least) at lunch.
