I'd like to put in a good word for a place called Tacos & Burritos (I guess all the catchy names were taken) on Norfolk street in San Mateo. It's a little hard to find, in the corner of the somewhat run-down shopping center across the street from the Fish Market restaurant, between a Chinese restaurant and Pet Depot or some such place. T&B stands out for its emphasis on fresh, non-pork, non-beef alternatives to standard Mexican fare, including and extensive choice of vegetarian and fish dishes. Main courses (tacos, burritos, fajitas) tend to based on freshly grilled fillings and I can even recommend the rice and beans on the side. A suburbanite, I don't know how this compares to the Mission district, but I've eaten there a couple of times now and have found it a good place to keep my vegetarian significant other and myself well provided for. Prices tend to be in the $6-8 range for entrees. Other details: The restaurant is connected to a full bar. Conveniently, you'll find a map of Bay Area speed traps posted on the way to the toilets. Decor is dominated by full size stuffed swordfish and Mayan sculptures. Kids and families welcome. In short, don't try to impress anyone by taking them there. My only conncection to the place is that of satisfied diner. I post this after lurking in this news group for several months and not seeing T&B mentioned, although it deserves checking out.
