This is a restaurant that is in my neck of the woods. It's at 5909 Franklin which puts it across the street from the Scientology building on one side and Mayfair on the other. La Poubelle is also situated on a block that has a number of other interesting shops... Counterpoint Records & Books has a wonderful selection of just that. There is also a cafe and book/card shop called the Bourgeois Pig and Daily Planet on that same block.

The French food served at La Poubelle is cuisine de la campagne which is much heartier. I have enjoyed their salade nicoise as well as a few pasta dishes. The cooking is done within view and most everything is prepared either in a pan or on a grill. The owner, I believe, is from Nice. They serve good wine and they also have an assortment of mixed drinks to choose from.
