From: [email removed] (KGaravagli) >Earlier this year I went back to the Moss Beach Distillery where they served my favorite appetizer - Shrimp Smacatine (a breaded shrimp with honey drisled on top). >Recently it has been taken off the menu - the chef now works "somewhere in San Francisco" - that was all the detail they could offer me. >Has anyone run across this on a menu? In San Francisco, Moss Beach Distillery is better know for its view and resident ghost than for a brilliant kitchen, so the chef may not be getting publicity for his service at Moss Beach, even if he has some wonderful dishes. (If he'd been a dishwasher at Chez Panisse or Masa, he'd get attention if he went somewhere else--it's not always fair, but it's the way it is.) There's a gossipy column in each Wednesday Chronicle that runs squibs about kitchen changes--shifting of chefs, etc. Can't remember the name of the column but it's a regular feature. You can look it up at SFGATE.com (including past issues of the Chron), and send an e-mail to the column writer. They'll probaby know where the chef has gone.
