Prior to a show at the Geary, I've always been partial to David's which is right across the street. The matza ball soup is real good and the sandwiches are pretty decent size. One of the few places in the Bay Area that I've found serves the New York style pastrami. The selection of desserts isn't bad either.

For excellent Italian food, I would recommend Scala's in the Sir Francis Drake. It's only a few blocks from the Geary and since it is in a hotel I would guess that it serves lunch every day. Elegant decor, excellent food, but a little on the expensive side. Of course there is always Postrio which is nearby as well, very expensive though. Enjoy the show and your lunch, Jay
