Somebody who visited Santa Cruz on business every so often wanted to know where the interesting restaurants were; he couldn't find them. Well, there aren't all that many. A previous poster mentioned India Joze -- true. If you're talking interesting food from the culinary standpoint (and from the standpoint of a fairly thick wallet), he might also try Casablanca and the Sea Cloud (both on or near the wharf). They're a cut above the usual. Aragona's in Soquel is the best Italian restaurant I know of in the area (costs a bit much for my wallet, but the food's good.)
