My opinion of the place borders on that. I've probably eaten there 20 times (on business or with friends, not my choice) and was never impressed. For non-Chinese seafood I have always preferred Spenger's in Berkeley, mainly because of the service (efficient) and consistency. The Fishmarket seems to have spent too much effort in yuppifiying the atmosphere and not enough improving the food. They are obviously doing something right because business is booming. I'm not saying that I hate the place or anything like that, I can always be convinced to go there with a group but I also can be convinced to go to Burger King which is across the street in Santa Clara or McDonalds which is next door in Palo Alto. The absolute best seafood that I've ever had is at Legal Seafood in Burlington, MA outside of Boston. If you like raw oysters they have the safest ones around. It's still family owned and managed. A truly great restaurant (chain).

I've had some pretty good meals there, although the bread they serve tends to be a bit rubbery. My chief complaint is that the place is noisy and looks a bit run down inside. Anyone else have any recent experience there? af
