Here's one to try... the Apostolic Assembly church at the end of Charter Street, (turn north off El Camino Real) just across the border in Redwood City.

In the back of the church is a low building with a kitchen & tables. At lunch time they serve great Mexican takeout. About 25 items on the menu, from tacos at $2.00 and Super Burrito at $4.25 up to a dozen Enchiladas at $18.00 including rice and beans.

One day I arrived as they were stirring a huge cauldron of _chicharrones_ (y'all call 'em "chitlins" up Nawth) with a 2 by 4, over a wood fire. This is like a trip into rural Mexico. I love it.

I haven't been in a while, so I'm not sure about hours, etc. You can call them at 361-9339, according to their takeaway menu.
