Dim Sum in the South Bay

I worked in this area for 5 years, and yes you do have to drive to find decent restaurants.

Kow Loon is good for Dim Sum. They are on Abbott and Calaveras in Milpitas. (First stop light after 880, turn left.) The food at Kow Loon is good, but the service is sometimes rude.

There's a (IMO) better place called Daily Harbor in the area. It's on Main Street. After you pass 880, Calaveras (237) splits. Calaveras veers to the left, and a single lane goes straight about a block, and ends at Main.

Turn right on Main and Daily Harbor is a big blue-green restaurant on your right.

On your way there, you will pass Baja Cactus on the left. BC has *fantastic* Mexican food.
