In Santa Cruz: There's a large restaurant/bar on Ocean right where Ocean becomes Highway 17. The restaurant isn't on the real Ocean St., but an "extension that goes off to the side (and under) the Hwy 1/17 interchange. It's awkward to get to, almost impossible to spot, and by the time you do spot it you're already past it. In the seven years I've lived in Santa Cruz it's been Bea's County Kitchen, a no-alcohol club and disco, and most recently a brewpub (Live Soup). And I'm told the building had three or four earlier incarnations as well, in the 20-odd years it has existed. A location that can't support a brewpub is truly cursed. Problem is, the building is so ideal in many ways -- spacious, lots of separate seating areas, attractive, and _sort of_ on a main street -- that new restauranteurs keep showing up. (I bet the rent's really attractive.) But that location kills 'em every time. Jim Jones From [email removed] Sun Dec 8 12:24:38 EST 1996 Article: 25576 of ba.food
