I think Chow is great. It isn't the best food in the city by a long shot. Chow is great because it is just what I needed within walking distance -- not expensive, open late, simple and consistent, easy to take people to because they have a little of everything. It works just fine as a neighborhood restaurant. Don't drive across the city for Chow and try to park in my unparkable neighborhood. And hey, sometimes plain and simple is good. Because there's Mecca right around the corner if you want pretentious. Not bad food, mind you, much to my surprise, but sometimes after eating at Zuni, Mecca, etc., simple sounds good.
