Between the Packers winning the NFC and the SuperBowl, it was a good idea to get out o the house and go for a drive. On a non-rainy Sunday Jerry and I drove down to Castroville, near Monterey and Hiway 1. Don Elkins is the proprietor of Texas Central BBQ in Castroville. Like most Californians he's from somewhere else - have you guessed yet. Anyway, sawdust on the floor and a western collection of hats, pictures and memorabilia scattered around the dining area (booths and tables). His style of BBQ is dry and cooked/smoked with Oak. The salad bar had an item i had never seen before
- pudding with vanilla cookies. The menu included brisket, turkey, pork shoulder, chicken, sausage(a little spicy), pork ribs, beef ribs. Sandwiches start at 5.75 and the Trail Boss (which neither of us could finish) was 10.00. If you are in that area (or have a need for some tasty(specially the brisket) head down this way. It is definitely worth the trip.

On the way back we spotted a place in La Honda called Clear Water(i think). Any experience there?

Finished of the weekend with a smoked pork butt that was on slow for 12 hours. Thanks Jerry - as usual mighty tasty.
