Walter,
I can think of three great restaurants in the village of
Carmel (there are actually dozens of them, but I'll give you a few of my favorites, and there also are a bunch more that I like in Monterey and Pacific Grove as well, so let me know if you would like the names of others)...
1) La Boheme... this is a little tiny place on Dolores
Street that serves a prix-fixe menu, but they also
have a vegetarian dinner every night that you can
request when you sit down. French food; it's wonderful
and a terrific value considering the quality. Their
Their wine list is terrific and the desserts are superb
also. (Dolores between Ocean and 7th. 831-624-7500)
2) CasaNova... terrific food with one of the biggest,
most complete wine lists around. Pretty expensive
(figure $30-50 a person with wine for the meal)
but it is definitely worth it. Continental food,
very elegant, romantic surroundings. (On 5th Ave.
between San Carlos and Misson. 831-625-0501)
3) Grasing's... one of the newer restaurants in town...
Fairly simple but elegant decor, California cuisine,
and the food is out of this world. Everything that
I've had is excellent. "Lick-the-plate" good, as
my dad likes to say... (On 6th Ave. between Junipero
and San Carlos. 831-624-6562)
Good luck! And I hope you find a place you like...
