Great analogy! My wife and I have made it a point over the last 20 years to stop by Nepenthe (Big Sur area) regularly on our (more or less) annual drive down the coast, and alas it too is in a sad decline. Though of a different sort: Hordes of faded, hot-pink tank tops, dingy white shorts and unruly kids have driven the place a notch or two lower on the casual elegance scale. Most popular item on the menu now is probably the burger. Top-end items, like the steaks, are only so-so, and the service is disinterested and prone to errors. Bad enough that we just drove right on by this last time, without a second thought. The view will never die though!
