not for dinner but for Sunday brunch I stongly recommend the Red Lion Inn in San Jose near the airport.

I don't. Unless it's improved over the last time I went there three years ago, it's not worth the money. Pacific Breeze has a good, fairly cheap Sunday brunch if you're in the San Jose area.

But the absolute best Sunday brunch is the Cliff House (near the West end of Golden Gate Park). $25 and you'll not regret a penny (unless you don't like sea food -- even then, you could probably make it worth it on dessert alone).

This must be my day to be disagreeable. The one time my family ate there (five years ago), it was horrible. It was particularly surprising given that you're not the first person to recommend it.

My friend's pay-rents [in this case "pay-checks"] took "us" out to the Duck Club at the Stanford Arms/Court/Whatever hotel by the Mall for sunday brunch on his bday ... oh I see you said "dinner buffet"...whoops!... well I assume they do that ok too.

Anyway, they had a pretty nice spread. I spent a little too much time chatting rather than stuffing, but I remember the "Mmmmm, Proscuitto". Desserts not a strong suit however.

We tried to convince the out of town uncle it was a Stanford dorm :-) [the "presidential daughter dorm"?]

That's the DoubleTree now. Not sure if the restaurant is still there.
