Kuleto's (Italian) in Burlingame is very close, and offers an easy access/egress from Highway 101.

Try the Fisherman (next to Benihanas). It's just a couple miles (at most) south of the airport, right on the water and you can watch planes landing as you dine. (Hmmm, I guess I've never been there for lunch though... so you might want to make sure they're open for lunch first...)

Max's (good corned beef, pastrami, chicken liver, etc.) open throughout the day so a LONG lunch is no problem, two exits from SFO. Not one of the ethnic styles you mentioned, but it's good for that style.

As for HKFL -- do they do dim sum weekdays? Dinners are good. As for Kuleto's -- I've found their lunches to be noticeable worse than their dinners. Not bad, just a grade below their dinner quality. However, you can have a nice, long lunch there and will enjoy it.

There are also a couple of Japanese places up on Broadway --- Jun for great sushi, and Juban for yakiniku.

Then, in downtown Burlingame (maybe another mile) you'll find lots of places... including Il Fornaio.

Pretty good ;-) .

: parents, I thought it was a bit plain. Might be good for : midwesterners who want fish but aren't adventurous.

I'm from Southern California and I liked the place :o) .

Fisherman Restaurant
(415)548-1490
1492 Bayshore Hwy.
Burlingame, CA.

The inside of the restaurant is very nicely appointed and has huge picture windows overlooking the Bay. The food is good but the views are what really sell this place. I've taken most of my friends there and they've loved it (and they're not from Southern California or the Midwest :O) ).

The restaurant serves pizza and pasta as well as steaks and seafood. They also have a good asortment of desserts, some of which are very large.

Casual or dressy attire okay.

Valet parking only. Small parking lot.

Kill time in a cybercafe surfing the web. Cafe Cybercaptive is 10 minutes south of the airport at 851 N San Mateo Dr near Peninsula intersection. The sandwiches there are the best as well, not your ordinary two pieces of bread thrown together. And Philly cheesesteaks.
