L'Ami Donia in Palo Alto has excellent food but is small, crowded, and can be a tad noisy.

Le Pot Au Feu in Menlo Park has good country French cuisine, moderate prices, and decent atmosphere.

La Fondue in Saratoga is always a good experience. Best bet for a ro- mantic evening.

Chez TJ in Mountain View. Although I haven't been there in a few years, they were not overly snooty, but yet provided excellent service & fine cuisine (I had a sturgeon there that was just fantastic). If I understand correctly they are also a cooking school. I seem to recall them also having a NY Times four star rating. $100 should cover about half of it if you get wine. While I don't think there's an official dress code, I wouldn't go there in jeans...
