looking for a restaurant on the Friday evening, centrally situated, which which does good French/Belgian cuisine and which is not too expensive (less than 25,000 belgian francs [$75, 50 pounds sterling] per person including wine). Thanks in advance

Charlie,

Try the Brussel Arms which is right off of the Main Square. We have quite a few people working in Brussels and it is a favorite. The Moules are excellent.

How about within a *walk* of the Grand' Place (weather permitting)?

Try In 't Spinnekopke. Lots of good things, including house specialties prepared by Chef Jean Rodriguez, a master of "cuisine a la biere."

I think you'll find that this place fits the budget at good prices for the quality on offer.

You could also drop in to the only truly worthwhile place in the "Ilot Sacree", Aux Armes de Bruxelles, also an easy walk from the Grand' Place. Better yet, make a reservation first, although I've managed to get a party of four seated without one.
