If you want good barbecue, and don't mind taking it home to eat, you're much better off going south a ways to Greece's Barbecue, a hole-in-the-wall on the corner of south La Brea and west 9th Street. The beef rib dinner is really quite tasty, and there's no corporate chain feel to the place - it looks family run. They smoke their own meat everyday, and the sauce is terrific.
