>I am driving up from Florida on business to Maryland. I am looking for a >good BBQ place to stop at on the way up. Not more than 20 Minute off = >Rt.95 > >Cliff Well Cliffy my man, you are in luck amigo. First, you'll be passing thru NC, BBQ mecca and swinus delectus ground zero. But I will leave NC selections to my southern tarheal brothers and offer this tip for my home state of Virginia. King's BBQ in Petersburg, VA just south of Richmond. There are 2 King's BBQ in Peterburg,VA Both are great, but different owner's and menus. The "downtown King's" is 3 miles off I-95 on Rt 1 off the Petersburg "downtown" exit, the second is the "Crater Rd King's" about a mile off I-95 at the Crater Rd exit. Both are excellent Carolina style cue with NC vinegar type sauce but the downtown Kings has Ribs and Crater road only has BBQ sandwiches and smoked chicken. But both these places are worth the stop, this is the real thing! This is the stuff ya want! Richmond,VA, Boulevard Exit off I-95 Only 3 miles to Carytown Double T's BBQ on Cary Street. Looks like a fern bar but DT's has the real deal, cue, ribs, brisket and four COUNT'EM FOUR rocking good sauces! Not unlike Red,Hot,&Blue but better. Farther up i-95 between Ashland & Richmond on Rt 1 off the Atlee-Elmont Exit is the Buz&Ned's BBQ cart located in the parking lot of GreenTop's Sporting Goods right down from the new VA Center Commons Mall. Buz&Neds ROCKS!!! Great BBQ sandwich w/ texas style sauce. An outdoor takeout cart but GREAT! This is specialty one of a kind Hybrid BBQ. they use only fresh cut white hickory. Lastly, a nice sitdown cafe place in Ashland called the Smokey Pig. Not as good as the rest, but not bad. If you see a chain of places called Bill's Barbecue that's looks like it should be good coz all the building were build in the 60's. Don't be fooled, they're a bunch of parboilin' gas cookin' pig peddlers. Stay far away, the only thing worth a damn on their menu is their limeaid which is pretty darn good. cap'n ron proud Virginian and purveyor of fine swine

Their barbecue is still cooked over wood coals and is still hand chopped. Leonard The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet - Free!
